Preseason 2024: Keep the dream alive

Season 2024, Ep. 1

It's been 9 months. Maybe you've forgotten the feeling. The up-in-the-night, pit-in-the-stomach waves of nerves that give way to pure bliss as Rod Moore cradles an errant Kyle McCord pass or Jalen Milroe runs straight into the best Michigan D-line of our lifetimes or Mikey Sainristil picks off Michael Penix to cue the confetti. Fear not - 16 Saturdays is back to shake off the cobwebs of lazy, drama-free Saturdays and return to the chaos and glory (or heartache) of another season.

On this episode, we look back at the edenic, legendary season that was and dream a little bit about what could still be. We hope for an answer at QB, pray for a WR to emerge, and beg to the injury demons to let us see this defense make it to Columbus fully intact. Go blue!

Did you know that it's been 1746 days since Ohio State beat Michigan. That's almost 5 years! That was before COVID! That was a long time ago! It wasn't always pretty or, you know, fun, but there were moments of glory (thank you Will Johnson) and signs of hope for a more fluid offense (hello Kalel Mullings). On this week's episode, we rejoice in the return of football, debate whether it's possible to rattle Matthew McConaughey, and discuss our evolving takes on the 12-team playoff. We also preview our trip together to Ann Arbor and talk about what it will take for Michigan to knock off Texas on Saturday.
  • Bring on the 16th Saturday (or Monday) - Michigan 27, Alabama 20

    51:46|
Another week, another win for Michigan - and in the words of Keith Jackson, whoa nelly this was not your average win. Michigan 27, Nick Saban-led Alabama 20 in overtime at the Rose Bowl, and now there’s only one more left to etch this team’s place in immortality.
  • Bring on Bama - Michigan 26, Iowa 0

    53:30|
Another week, another win for Michigan. Another year, another Big Ten Championship and another berth in the college football playoff. The Wolverines cruise past Iowa 26-0 to win their 3rd straight big ten title and now move on to face Alabama with a shot at the ultimate prize on the line. On this week's episode we: - Celebrate another Big Ten title - Bemoan the Iowa offense - Debate FSU vs. Bama - Preview the CFP - Take a quick peek at the portal and preview next year
  • Rush The Field - Michigan 30, Ohio State 24

    01:11:05|
Another week, another win for Michigan. Another year, another loss for Ohio State. Corum scores two touchdowns, JJ plays like the JJ of old, Sherrone Moore out-coaches Ryan Day, and Rod Moore etches his name into Michigan lore as the Wolverines make it 3 in a row and move on to the Big Ten title game. On this week's episode, we relive one of the greatest weekends of our fandom lives, toast the legends who transformed this rivalry, and debate what the game means for both teams (Harbaugh, please sign the extension!). We also preview Championship Week and discuss rooting interests for Michigan fans.
  • Survive and Advance - Michigan 31, Maryland 24

    46:31|
It wasn’t necessarily pretty or relaxing or, you know, enjoyable, but it was a win, and after long last, we’ve arrived at the one-game season. On Saturday the maize and blue will take on the scarlet and grey in what might be the biggest game of our lifetime. On this week's episode we exhale after a nerve-wracking second half, pray for a healthy roster and an early-season-form JJ, and discuss the stakes of a game that feels much bigger than the biggest rivalry in sports.
  • Why Should I Change My Name? He's the One Who Sucks. Michigan 24, Penn State 15

    01:04:38|
On the road. Versus a top-15 team. Without a head coach. Without, you know, throwing the football. Oh, and without a sign guy. Michigan wins an emotional battle against Penn State to improve to 10-0 and stay on collision course with the evil empire. On this week's episode, we break down the game, rip into the Big Ten, and discuss Michigan's acceptance of the 3-game suspension in real-time. We also welcome our newest edition to the 16 Saturdays family!
  • Michigan vs. The World, Michigan 41, Purdue 13

    47:40|
Here's what the story should have been: Corum moves to 2nd all-time in TDs. JJ looks rusty but still completes 65% of his passes for over 300 yards. And the defense looks like its usual self. Oh btw, Harbaugh signs an extension and is staying at Michigan for life. Instead, here we are. A sport where rules are broken constantly (see Jayden Daniels reentering the game Saturday night with a concussion) has decided to attack Harbaugh for a rule they almost dropped because it didn't provide a meaningful advantage. And now our "friends" in the Big Ten have taken out the pitchforks in an attempt to remove due process and issue a Draconian punishment. On this week's episode, we try to take deep breaths while pushing back on the hysterics of modern media and mob rule.
