  • 27. On the Impossible Past — with Andrew

    01:34:47||Season 3, Ep. 27
    This week Andrew Sacher (editor at BrooklynVegan and host of their BV Weekly podcast) peeked into the TTYG hole and extolled the virtues of The Menzingers' On the Impossible Past. We also got a sneak peek at Andrew's upcoming book Emo Revival: Community, DIY, and Rebirth in Post-Hardcore and Emo (spoilers: Foxing mentioned).Also up for emo-scussion (that's discussion by Carly Rae Jepsen): A furtive review of what nostalgia feels like per Carl Jung, the world's worst Pokémon analogy is deployed and every single emo-adjacent band is named along with the year of their albums and a horoscope of their fates. Bands referenced in this episode include: Paramore, Foxing (a lot) Modern Baseball, Algernon Cadwallader, Hop Along, Joyce Manor, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, and basically every other emo band 2008-2018. Also Jawbreaker. You can find BV weekly here or wherever else podcasts are found. You can also preorder Emo Revival here on Amazon or your local bookstore. I would've done the hotter and more ethical thing by linking back to the publisher at Clash Books, but their copies are SOLD OUT so you know its gonna be a hit.
  • 26. Dogs — with Josaleigh Pollett

    01:56:53||Season 3, Ep. 26
    It's raining cats and "Dogs" is something we could have said but didn't when discussing Nina Nastasia's Dogs with Josaleigh Pollett, who much more adeptly walked us through their love of the record, plus shared a WORLD PREMIERE PROBABLY of a new song off their upcoming album, “If I Let It Quiet.” If we three hosts were let to be quiet this podcast might become listenable.Also up for quiet reading hour discussion: Utah is the home of bees and also its own iconic pride flag, it's hard to hear a Zoom from Japan over all the breakfast sandwich mayonaisse, and we are forming a Sly and the Family Stone cover band that plays mozzarella music.Bands referenced in this ep: Wilco, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Bill Callahan, Tin Hat, Lucinda Williams, Sly and the Family Stone.Get a little more of a sneak peek (is it a sneakier peek?) at Josaleigh’s new music on Bandcamp: The Witness, Like a River
  • 25. Billy Talent II — with Ciara

    01:50:34||Season 3, Ep. 25
    Ciara joins us for the 3rd time to talk the 3rd record by Billy Talent (google Pezz with the two zs and then filter "Canadian") as it turns 20! That's right its a birthday extravaganza and we "Try Honestly" to get it right. I know that's not the name of the song but it is close, so give it to me. Also up for 2scussion: Golden crocodiles, wherefore art thou? World of Warcraft is the ideal way to discover music, and Sy Snoodles is put on blast. Also hey! Charlie wrote a retrospective on the album for The Alternative here.
  • 24. Last Splash — with Abby

    01:31:42||Season 3, Ep. 24
    This week we cannonball into the 90s with the help of music critic Abby Jones, who walks us through The Breeders' classic record Last Splash, and if you want better writing than this sentence provides, you can check out her work at https://www.abbyfjones.com/Also up for splashscussion (that's discussion in a tidal pool): We demand to pull the blur lever at Pitchfork, what is the quintessential 7.0 record?, and Chris attempts to goad Abby into slandering her previous employers for some reason.
  • 23. Shrek the Third

    01:30:45||Season 3, Ep. 23
    It's a music podcast! And Shrek is one of the most musical movies out there! Kind of! Also this one is really bad and does not leverage the hits-- so look forward to our intimate disection of this Dreamworks classic. Also up for donk-shreking: A new hybrid bev that is better than the hybrid donkey dragon monster babies, we wear Julia's jeans for a night, and who could've seen it coming but Chris has a showtime and its the same as it was the last 30 times.
  • 22. Tim — with Will of Melvic Centre

    01:18:10||Season 3, Ep. 22
    This week it’s Tim with Will and Chris and Charlie and Lucas and Donald and Ronald and I only made up two of those names so get guessing, clue hunters! Speaking of sleuthing: Will (of Melvic Centre, which is spelled Australian style like Colour or Raisin Brean) joined us to explain The Replacements’ fourth (?!) studio album, Tim. That's right it's Tim Time and I wish we had said that on the episode.Also in Tim Time: The Simpsons got Australia totally right in just a few ways, an investigation into the Melvic/Pelvic controversy, and we ask Will to name every credit card he's ever seen.
  • 21. Just Married — with Kade of Swiss Army Wife

    01:33:56||Season 3, Ep. 21
    Our episode naming conventions make it sound like we just got married to Kade but no! No one gets married in this episode except for us getting married to the idea of loving Get Married! Let me start this over this isn't working: This week, we are joined by Kade of Swiss Army Wife (linktr.ee/swissarmywifeband) who walks us through Glocca Morra's secret masterpiece, Get Married.Also up for discussion: Tortellinis are a dangerous kitchen food, it's actually totally normal to wear nothing under a sweatshirt, and we all love Portland, Oregon (Maine not mentioned).Editor's Note: We are aware Top Gun is in Fallon and NOT Las Vegas. We are also aware that much of TOP GUN (1986) takes place in San Diego. Remarks made at the beginning of the episode were part of a purposeful misinformation campaign.
  • 20. The Monitor — with Sean Huber

    01:42:09||Season 3, Ep. 20
    This week we are joined by Sean Huber of Bardust, Steady Hands and Modern Baseball to talk about Titus Andronicus' Civil War/Teen Feelings concept album, The Monitor. I know it's about a ship but I can't help but think they named it after the TV monitor on accident and that's confusing. Name ships differently!Also up for discussion: Wales is a criminally underatted country, what the hell even is the Jersey Devil, and The Pogues were originally called "Pogue Mahone" so they should sue Post Malone for copyright.
  • 19. Awkward Breeds

    01:24:27||Season 3, Ep. 19
    This week we three sidekicks (under communism, no one gets to be the main guy) discuss The Sidekicks' Awkward Breeds. It's underrated and it has got a bird on the cover and basically all we do is list similar facts such as that. Also up for breeding (discussion): This is now a presidential impression podcast, soda enemas are in (the wrong holes) and Boy Meets World, What About Boy Exits World: the Abraham Lincoln Story.
