10/10 You're Great

There's only one rule for 10/10 club: Never say there are too many moving parts in an episode title, and also Edward Norton DNI - this is a No Nort Zone. By which, of course, we mean that this week we were joined by David Anthony of Former Clarity who had it in his motörheart to return to the pöd to share his love of Motörhead's Ace of Spades for the final episode of Slot Progust Bites. And if you hate this theme you won’t soon because we have a worse one in the oven.Also up for Lemmscussion: Coaster Talk returns as we slowly morph into an Alan Schilke fancast, we say "oh yeahhhh" to a bicoastal BevCheck (David is in Chicago, the middle coast) and an extremely unfortunate lyrics court.

Anyways this week Slot Progust Bites continues with Room on Fire by The Strokes, the album that Time Magazine called "the one that came after Is This It and it has Reptilia on it."Also up for discussion: America's least competent send-off to one of it's most beloved icons, Orson Wells invented the Squidward Sound, and we have a great crossover idea for the Black Eyed Peas and the Hasbro corporation.

This week we dive into Slot Progust Bites in earnest with Chance the Rapper... because again Slot Progust Bites is a casino themed month and like.. games of chance are what that's called. Anyways for this week's episode we decided to unpack Chance's second and third mixtapes, Acid Rap and Coloring Book.Also up for gamblin' men-discussion (which is what Frank Sinatra called singing): Being corny became illegal in 2016 due to world events, we take a chance on a wetter than usual bev, and an extremely lukewarm defense of The Big Day.

Chris' endless summer (Mike Love) vacation has continued to plague the podcast so we just did a little episode where we checked a bev and listed every single rollercoaster's make, model, and forecasted date of death-- like instead of talking about music so if you're here for that stay tuned for other weeks. Also since the bit is now like too many layers deep to be desciphered here is a primer on the month theme. In Reno Nevada (where we three hosts met), there is an annual classic car show event thing called Hot August Nights. Our first year of podcasting we decided to do "Hot August Bites" where we did albums named after food, like Salad Days and CAKE and stuff. The next August Chris tortured us by changing the theme to "Hot Progust Bites" and doing prog stuff, which you should never do to someone you love. Now our continued mutilation of the idea has brought us to "Slot Progust Bites" which will be like.. casinos or slot machines or something. It'll be fine. Stay tuned next year for Slot Progust Frights which will just be October.

And by that I mean we wax nostalgic about some of the 1 hit wonders of early indie adulthood. Does this work as an episode? We also got a sneak peek at Andrew's upcoming book Emo Revival: Community, DIY, and Rebirth in Post-Hardcore and Emo (spoilers: Foxing mentioned).Also up for emo-scussion (that's discussion by Carly Rae Jepsen): A furtive review of what nostalgia feels like per Carl Jung, the world's worst Pokémon analogy is deployed and every single emo-adjacent band is named along with the year of their albums and a horoscope of their fates.
