10/10 You're Great
Any Other City — with Johanna
This week we are joined by music writer Johanna "Jojo" Sommer to discuss Life "Without" Buildings' record, Any "Other" City. I am trying to learn to use quotation marks in the AP style and it is "NOT" going well. Unlike me, Johanna does an amazing job explaining the record coherently, so please look forward to that. You can also read her write up on the record right here courtesy of our friends at The Alternative.
Also up for discussion: Morrissey says There Is a Light That Never Goes Out (on his alarm clock), everyone in charge of online ticket sales should be in prison, and cooties are caught fun and funky style, apologies to our loved ones.

12. Mirrored
01:31:21||Season 3, Ep. 12Dateline 2 days ago: This week we were slightly late because we were busy with One Battles After Another (choosing what to eat on vacation, a recurring trial). Anyways what that is supposed to mean is apologies for the delay, here is an episode about Battles' first record, Mirrored. Also up for discussion: What is the shape of Mexico City and can it be contained to just one valley, Pitchfork appears to host an AI-written article about an AI-written album because this is hell, and did you know that one of the guys from Battles was in some other band with 1/1000th the clout? No? Well that's actually normal not to know, and it's nuts to pretend like that's common knowledge or to shame your co-hosts about it.
Minisode: Spring Break BevCheck
36:42||Season 3This week: Lucas is in Mexico, Chris is in Vegas and Charlie is in sweatpants, so we had to do a very BevCheck-forward minisode. Also up for discussion: Chris went to some shows... and that's it. It's too short to come up with three things that happen. There are shows and a Chocolate Starfish/Hotdog Water-flavored Bev - I have been served a subpoena demanding I never say that again, but it's true.
10. Fun House — with DeeDee of MSPAINT
01:00:15||Season 3, Ep. 10This week, we present some information in its purest form-- by which I mean we are joined by DeeDee, of MSPAINT and Him Horrison, who patiently helps us three stooges understand The Stooges' 2nd record, Fun House. As DeeDee explains, its a great record for if you want to learn nothing and that has also been the pitch for this podcast. Also up for discussion: 17 band members is not too much as long as none of them know the songs, fighters are a BS class because you can buy swords in real life, and none of us say "nyuk nyuk nyuk" because its a different stooge scenario.
9. Richard D. James Album
01:12:43||Season 3, Ep. 9THIS WEEK -- your three humble hosts are "Richard D. Game" to discuss Richard D. James album by Aphex Twin. I'm sorry there was no better way to write that sentence. "Of all the gin joints in all the towns of the world, that sentence just had to walk into mine" -- Richard D. Casablanca. Also (Aphex) up for Twinscussion: Kim's can tell (that a certain record is turning 20), a brief review of a 1993 experimental documentary for some reason, and we all say "Goon Grumpus" but it's cool because for once someone else said the stupid words and we're just repeating them.
8. After the Party - with Ciara and Brendan
01:54:38||Season 3, Ep. 8This week we are really partying it up with two returning guests, Ciara Rhiannon and Brendan Menapace, both of whom help explain their love of the The Menzingers post-partyum depression record, After the Party. Don't worry, we 3 hosts pronounce Menzingers right 100% of the time definitely. And “let me be clear,” we love and respect Tom just as much as Greg even though we pretty much only talk about Greg’s songs. Also up for discussion: a bicoastal bev bonanza as Tri Repetae (that's how IDM heads say 3) drinks are slurped, we continue to confront Ciara with Destroyer records for some reason, Brendan refuses to comment on Animal Collective (wise) and a dissertation on what has happened to Apple Jacks.
7. Gentleman
01:55:00||Season 3, Ep. 7Tonight, this week (x100) we celebrate our 100th episode (aaa) by talking Fela Kuti's 1973 Afrobeat classic, Gentleman. The cover of the original makes a salient point about colonization and culture, so was it ignorant to thoughtlessly slap our cat on there? I hope not! Also up for discussion: We wishcast that one Arcade Fire brother has a soul (not the criminal one), none of us can name a single woman (we are trying to be woke but too stupid to do it good), and we return to an early BevCheck in honor of us having done this 100 times and run out of ideas around ep 6.10/10 You’re Great is presented by The Alternative. 6. Hybrid Theory - with Kevin of pulses.
01:38:07||Season 3, Ep. 6This week we are joined by the handsome drummer and lyricist of pulses. (capitalization and period correct) to talk us through Linkin Park's debut Hybrid Theory. (Meteora mentioned). Also up for discussion: Being a drummer and a lyricist is fun per one host and not the guest, the good king mooglemog (Chris) says a local music store loves ICE and must be melted, and we debate the best PS2 Final Fantasy to a standstill (and 11 is not considered because we have knowledge).10/10 You’re Great is presented by The Alternative. 5. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
01:48:00||Season 3, Ep. 5CONTENT WARNING: Chris is loudly eating Doritos (nacho) into the mic for the first two minutes, and we are talking like morons about Sidney Sweeney and North Sentinel Island(?) for the first ten, so skip that far in for a better listening experience. Also: this week we decided musicals are albums so we watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with our partners and boy... it is a film and it is somehow 2.5 hours long which is insane. There's flying cars, an old man living in a toilet, and a boomercore "I hate my wife" song that absolutely whaps-- TONIGHT!
